Northern Ohio Cup Tournament

Saturday and Sunday, April 12 & 13, 2014 - Northern Ohio Cup Soccer Tournament - Lodi, Ohio (Brendan).


I added it to the list of upcoming events below, but I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention.  It'll be snowing.  Or freezing rain.  Or maybe both.  This is not the most fun tournament we play every year, but it's mandatory.  Well, for Brendan it is.  The rest of you can stay at home with hot chocolate if you so choose :)

Top O' the Box!

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has sent Nathan box tops for his school!  So far he's turned in 130 of them, which is apparently enough to get him into the "Box Top Club."  Sounds very swanky.

They're still collecting them through the end of the year, so keep an eye out for them :)

I set dinner on fire again

the other night.  Pasta, again.  I honestly don't know how it happened.  I put the pasta in the boiling water.  While I was waiting for the part in the pot to soften up enough to smush the rest of the noodles in, the noodles hanging over the edge of the pot caught fire and started shooting flames up about 1-2 feet into the air.

I'm going to start carrying some noodles in my pocket when we go on hiking trips.  That crap is way more flammable than I ever thought possible!

In other news, how long until we can get some decent fresh fruit again?  I've been craving non-sawdust watermelon now for weeks.  It's going to be a looooooooong winter.

In case you didn't see it, earlier I posted the Winter II soccer schedule.  In addition to that, we have several other things you'll want to put on your calendar:

Saturday, January 25, 2014 - Pinewood Derby @ the church.  9am-12pm.  Itty bitties go last, if I recall correctly, so Nate's car will probably run around 10-ish?  Bring cash!  This year one of the Dads has decreed that there shall be delicious treats at the snack stand.  :)

Friday, February 14, 2014 - No school.  Any volunteers?  What's a more romantic way to spend Valentine's Day than babysitting your grandchildren?

Tuesday, March 4, 2014 - Nathan's Spring Choir Concert - 7:00 pm @ the high school.  Please give me a headcount so I know how many seats to save.

March 24- 28, 2014 - Spring Break.  Who wants to rescue the children from the sad, sad woe that is Fun Club?

Winter II Soccer Schedule

Session 2 is also going to be at the Dome!   Wooooohooooooo!  No more driving to Lodi at 6:15 a.m.!  This mama is thrilled.  All this comes with the usual caveats, subject to change, yadda yadda.

It's a nice variety.  Last season, because of schedule changes and conflicts, we ended up playing against a lot of the same teams twice, and other Canton United teams a bunch.  This one looks better.  For now.  As I said, it'll probably change four times before the season is over. 

This Weekend (12/27)

Not a ton going on this weekend.  The boys are staying with their grandparents over the weekend so Mike and I will be doing a lot of laundry.  Adulthood is so exciting.

Brendan does have two soccer games this weekend, though, so if you're free, we'll see you there!

Friday, December 27 - 8:00 p.m. vs. Lake White

Sunday, December 29 - 3:00 p.m. vs. Strikers

We've already played both of the Lake teams once.  We won one and lost one.  I'm not sure if this is the team that we beat earlier in the season or the team that squeaked out a narrow victory over us last week.  Either way, I'm sure the boys are hungry for a rematch.

This Weekend (12/20)

No soccer game on Friday, which is good, because both boys have a late-night lock-in for Scouts.  Brendan is a Den Chief for the Tiger Cubs, which is sort of like a junior assistant leader position, so he needs to go and help wrangle first graders.  He's certainly learning to appreciate just how difficult it is to herd the little ones!  Each den made a boat from cardboard and duct tape and they're going to race them in the indoor pool, which should be amazingly hilarious.  Nathan has been nominated to paddle his den's boat (with one other kid) because he weighs the least of all of the kids in his age group, lol!

There is, however, a game on Sunday:

In other news, Brendan was also recently elected Patrol Leader of his patrol in Scouts, which means that in addition to chasing itty bitties, he's also got to get kids his own age (and older) to listen to him.  He needs a certain number of months in leadership positions in order to earn his next rank, and between the two, he'll have plenty :)  They're planning a super cool campout in January where they'll get to paddle in an underground river and sleep in a cave.
